Simple Candle Magick - How it Can Help You Get What You Need

By

Did you know that candles are used for more than just creating atmosphere or revealing your age on birthday cakes? Since candles are intrinsically connected to the four elements of nature (the candle is of an earthen base; the lit wick creates smoke in the air and fire as well; the melted wax pools like water), they have long been used for magickal purposes. Anyone can avail themselves of the gifts candles offer -- all that is required is the presence of a genuine need, a candle, a lighter (gas and flint), a quiet place in which to work, clarity of mind and body, an understanding and acceptance of the mysterious workings of energy and a little bit of information, which follows.

Before engaging a candle, be sure that your intent does not involve manipulation of others (like aiming a 'love' candle at a specific person). Also be sure that your need is a genuine one and does not spring from anything self-serving, which is to say that wanting something is not the same thing as needing something. Of equal import is the consideration of unanticipated boomerang effects -- could your need present difficulty or harm for you or someone else? If your need is clearly non-invasive and none of these warnings apply, then the magick can begin. Here are the simple steps involved in manifesting through simple candle magick.

First, ascertain what it is, exactly, that you need and match a candle to that need. If you need money, use a green candle. Love and affection connects to pink; passion and strength, to red. While the vibrancy and esoteric value of color is not to be dismissed, if you don't have the right one or can't find it in stores, white is an acceptable substitute in any endeavor.

Second, look to the phase of the moon and follow the basic rule of thumb, which is the waxing moon (before the full) brings things to you while the waning moon (after the full) takes things away from you. For example, if you need more of a social life, light an orange candle during the two weeks before the full moon. If, on the other hand, you need to break the hold of a negative relationship, light a black candle during the two weeks after the full moon. If your need is an urgent one, go ahead despite the moon phase, however, if you do have the luxury of time, schedule your burn with the Moon's energy as this provides an extra charge to your work.

Third, make sure you have all you need, including a lighter (matches contain too many man made chemicals -- I prefer the elemental gas and flint), candle holder and incense, if you like and do it! Ensure that you are in a private space and will not be disturbed. Make yourself comfortable, hold your candle in your writing hand and focus on your need (you are literally 'charging' the candle with your energy), then secure the candle into a solid, non-flammable holder and place it somewhere safe (we only want the candle lit -- not your house). Sit before it, close your eyes if you like and concentrate on your request and need. Direct all of your thought energy into that candle; 'see' the results and when your thoughts are the strongest and most focused, light its wick.

That's it. Just sit for a bit and feel that smile coming...you just ventured into the realm of spirit and your own manifestation abilities -- it is a gratifying and empowering experience.
Remember that the key to this venture is belief. If you do not believe it will work, it won't. I know it works: I've done it many times and I have seen the results with my own eyes. Another thing: once you have completed the burn (over a series of nights if necessary), try to forget about it. Just go about your business as usual and truly release your request to the Universe. Remember that watching the water doesn't make it boil any faster! Go away and let the energy do its work!
