Setting Up The Altar

The Altar
An Altar is both your working table, and a place where you honor the Goddess and the God. With these two complimentary purposes in mind it becomes easier to understand why and where you place the things you do on the Altar. The Altar is usually placed in the North (power), East (beginnings) or Center of the Circle.

First, ensure you have a surface sufficient for your needs, a comfortable height, and neither too large nor too small. It is usual to cover this with a cloth which protects the surface from accidental spills and denotes the change of use.

On this place symbols of the Elements; incense for Air, a candle for Fire, a dish of Water for water, and Salt for Earth. Usually these are placed approximately in their compass positions, although the candles should always be placed so you can avoid reaching over them.

You will also need either a pair of candles, statures or other representations of the Goddess and the God. It is usual to have an Altar Pentacle (a largish, flat version of the five pointed star in a circle) in the center front to act as your working surface.

You should have a Chalice of wine and some biscuits to perform the Rite of Wine and Cakes or for grounding. In addition you will need matches to light the candles, a snuffer if you don't use your fingers, extra supplies of incense, and the ingredients for whatever spell(s) or magick you are working. You do not need to include other things which are not necessary for your Rites.

From: The Real Witches' Year

NOTE: If the items listed above are unfamiliar to you, or not part of your own personal magickal path, it is perfectly right to substitute or omit anything that doesn't resonate. There is no "wrong" way to set up an altar as long as your intent is pure and the altar is created with an attitude of respect. Altars are as unique and varied as the magickal people who create them. Wicca and Witchcraft Magick

Wicca & Witchcraft

Wicca is a belief system and way of life based upon the reconstruction of pre-Christian traditions originating in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Witchcraft in ancient history was known as "The Craft of the Wise" because most who followed the path were in tune with the forces of nature, had a knowledge of Herbs and medicines, gave council and were valuable parts of the village and community as Shamanic healers and leaders. They understood that mankind is not superior to nature, the earth and its creatures but instead we are simply one of the many parts, both seen and unseen that combines to make the whole. These wise people understood that what we take or use, we must return in kind to maintain balance and equilibrium. Wiccan believe that the spirit of the One, Goddess and God exist in all things. In the trees, rain, flowers, the sea, in each other and all of natures creatures. This means that we must treat "all things" of the Earth as aspects of the divine. Wicca attempts to honor and respect life in all its many manifestations both seen and unseen.

Witchcraft is a spiritual system that fosters the free thought and will of the individual, encourages learning and an understanding of the earth and nature thereby affirming the divinity in all living things. Most importantly however, it teaches responsibility. This system acknowledge the cycles of nature, the lunar phases and the seasons to celebrate our spirituality and to worship the divine. It is a belief system that allows the Witch to work with, not in supplication to deities with the intent of living in harmony and achieving balance with all things. Witchcraft involves Spell casting for the purpose of healing, love, harmony, wisdom and creativity.

Tarot-card Philosophy

Tarot-card Philosophy
by Lee Ann Obringer
How can randomly drawn cards have any relevance to someone's life and what's happening in it? What most readers say the Tarot can enlighten you about are the choices you have. The cards don't tell you what you should do or what specifically is going to happen in your future, but rather the possibilities depending on the path you take. Let's look at some of the theories behind how Tarot cards could possibly work.

Synchronicity

Carl Jung believed that in addition to the repeatable cause-and-effect relationships on which the scientific world is so strongly based, there is also another connecting principle that does not share that cause-and-effect relationship. He called this principle synchronicity. According to Jung, synchronicity explains the guiding forces in the universe. Things we might see as coincidence are actually signs that can help us make decisions and guide our lives -- if we recognize them.

Jung believed that quantum mechanics could be a possible explanation for the phenomenon of synchronicity. (Quantum mechanics explains the relationships of particles and their random interconnectivity, with behaviors being probabilities rather than certainties.) There are those who believe that because the forces of quantum mechanics affect the reality of physical objects, Tarot cards might play the role of showing us paths and patterns and helping us understand the meaning in those guiding energies. Although, according to the principles of quantum mechanics, once you see the possible outcomes in the Tarot reading, you've changed the probabilities. While Jung did not study Tarot, he was interested in I Ching (another divination tool) and suggested that synchronicity could be an explanation for how I Ching might work for divination.

Projecting

Some say it all boils down to your subconscious mind. Arguably, how we perceive things relies heavily on our subconscious, and there are those who believe that with Tarot, the subconscious projects its own interpretations on the Tarot cards. As a person receiving a Tarot reading, your interpretation of the cards is a result of the factors in your life that shape who you are and what you are about. The questions you have about your life (usually the reason for consulting the Tarot in the first place) are projected onto the pictures, so you divine answers from what you see. In this way, the Tarot is useful in helping us to tap into our subconscious to find answers that we might never consciously think of. The Rorschach inkblot test uses a similar principle to look into the subconscious. Whether you believe that Tarot cards hold any power or ability to shed light on your life, your problems or your future might depend on how easily you can open you mind to the idea of it. Many Tarot-card readers have differing ideas about how or why the Tarot works. In fact, some say we only need the Tarot to help us until we learn to get in touch with our "inner guide" on our own.

2 Simple Wicca Spells To Make You Successful In Life

2 Simple Wicca Spells To Make You Successful In Life

By

Everyone wants success. That is already a given. But the trick is finding it, or, for it to find you. If you want to succeed in life but you don't know where to start AND you just happen to be just a little bit spiritual, may I suggest that you try several Wicca spells to help get you started. Wicca spells have allowed many a great people find success in life. Good karmic spells allow good positive energies to surround the caster as he/she invokes the power of the spell. If you are new to this, you don't have to worry. These spells are very simple but it can drastically change the way you think and do things.

A lot of Wicca spells offer the caster certain attributes and qualities up until the spells last. Some of the spells that I've read up on are spells that grant the Wiccan caster the power of prophetic visions. Some enable the caster to see inanimate objects or spirits as what some would say. There are other more fantastic spells that are out there like the ability of flight and of an out of the body experience. Today though, we will start with some very simple Wicca spells to help you achieve greater things in life.

Traditions of Wicca

Traditions of Wicca

Wiccan Traditions

For some of us Wicca is a solitary religion, something that we have taught ourselves through groups, books or even the internet. Whether you grew up in a Wiccan family or were initiated the traditional way through a coven, it is important to understand all of the Wiccan traditions.

Gardenerian Wicca
Gerald Gardener's traditional way honors Cernunnos as the lord and Aradia as the lady. This path of Wicca is formal with skyclad worship and degrees of initiation with the covens having no more than thirteen members in each. The covens are led by a high priestess with a high priest. Gardenerians are not too impressed by self initiation in other forms of Wicca because they believe that it takes a witch to make a witch.

Clear Quartz..Master Healer

The clear quartz crystal is one of the most sacred stones of ancient cultures. Its clarity and transparency give it a mirror quality through which things can be seen clearly. The natural quartz crystal symbolizes white light energy.

The power of the crystal can be found in its structure - growing and reaching up toward light from the deepest parts of earth. It is a conductor of energy - both as a receiver and a transmitter. It is important to keep your crystal clean in order to protect it from outside negative vibrations. Your personal crystals will attune themselves to your vibrations, as you will attune to the natural vibrations of the crystal. Choose crystals that seem to speak to you or that you feel attracted to for best results.

Three Powerful Money Spells You Can Try

Are you in need of some financial help? Try these... they do work and... what the heck, why not try it? It sure won't hurt anything :). -- Michelle

Money spells are very popular. We'd all like some extra money here and there, and a money spell is a good way to help us along the way. Here are a few of my own personal money spells and charms that I'd like to share.

o Light a green taper candle, place it on your alter, and rub it down with almond oil. You can also light some almond incense if you wish. Meditate for a few minutes and then begin chanting:

"Money, money, come to me. I will have wealth and prosperity." "Money, money, come to me. I will have wealth and prosperity."

Chant this mantra over and over again, for at least fifteen minutes. While chanting it, visualize yourself enjoying the money as if you already have it. Once you feel that you've gathered enough energy and that the mantra chanting was successful, then say,

To Be A Witch...

To be a witch means that you are wise and beautiful from the inside out and you are able to work with the energies of the universe that have an effect on every male and female, not to mention the planet itself, knowing how to connect the energies you are working with before you can cast your first spell.

To be a witch you will need to learn how to work with the energies of nature that surround you in your daily life, the elements of air, fire, water, earth and spirit, balancing the energies of the universe. You will also need to learn all about your tools of the craft, why you use them and what you use them for.

To be called a witch should always be taken as a compliment and never as an insult, as the word witch means wise one and the word witchcraft means wise craft.
I found this while I was surfing the web... and thought it was a beautiful and nicely written explanation of what a witch really is.  Too often we are thought of as evil or wicked, and that is just not true... (Michelle)

The Metaphysical Book of Gems and Crystals

Details the powerful effects of gems as an alternative therapy for physical, psychological, and spiritual healing

• Reveals the physical, healing, and astrological properties of over 70 minerals, along with instructions for maintaining and recharging their powers

• Examines the “life” energy of stones, their basic vibratory patterns, and how this energy is used therapeutically to treat various disorders

• Shows how to use gems in color therapy and to harmonize the chakras

Gemstones have been used for both therapeutic and spiritual purposes since the beginning of time and in all traditions. Used properly, they can contribute to and accelerate healing through the practice of lithotherapy, which uses gems and minerals to restore enzymatic functions, and they can energize spiritual development. Alternative medicines such as homeopathy have given prominence to the therapeutic character of certain minerals, but the use of gemstones in expanding awareness or establishing a holistic, energetic connection with the stone itself have scarcely been brought forward. In this reclaiming of ancient wisdom, Florence Mégemont explores the many potent and beneficial dimensions of the mineral world.

Over 70 precious and semiprecious stones are inventoried as to their principal deposits, therapeutic applications, and zodiac correspondences. Readers will discover which physical and emotional disorders can be relieved by using which minerals and--with the application of chakra therapy--which gemstones are indispensable to their spiritual health. While not proposing that lithotherapy is a substitute for traditional allopathic treatment, Mégemont shows that it can be a powerful complement to it. Additionally, stones can act preventively, energizing both our health and spiritual resources to a state of balance and attunement.

MAGIC CANDLE RITUALS

MAGIC CANDLE RITUALS

Candle rituals have been around for centuries.
You light the candles, maybe close your eyes while repeating a spell or that which you
wish for and visualizing it coming true.
It is a combination of the need or desire, and the ability to visualize the outcome.
Candle burning spells and rituals are very easy to do and to have success with if they are
done correctly and you truly believe. The different colors of candles each have their own symbolism.
Here is a table of the colors and their meanings.
White: truth, purity
Red: love, health, sex, strength
Green: money, luck, fertility
Black: discord, evil, negativity, confusion
Brown: neutrality, uncertainty, hesitation
Pink: love, morality, honor
Purple: power, business progress, ambition
Orange: attraction, stimulation
Greenish Yellow: jealousy, anger, discord
Gray: neutrality, stalemate, negativity
Light Blue: tranquility, patience, health
Dark Blue: depression, changeability
Candle spells can be very easy or complicated.
It all depends on how much time you want to put into a ritual.
It can be as simple as lighting a green candle and chanting... money money come to me.
It can also be very long and complicated lasting several days with the repositioning of
the candles each day. The choice is always yours.
The first thing you want to do is get the appropriate color candles for your particular desire.
Then you need to anoint the candle with oil. Olive oil will do fine.
You need to rub the candle with the oil from the middle outward to the ends.
As you are doing this you need to be thinking of your desired goal.
Then sit and meditate on your desire after lighting the candles, then read your spell
or chant your appropriate mantra.
You don't need some elaborate spell with a bunch of big words or words you don't
even know how to pronounce. You can make your own spells or rituals.
Think of your desire then make a simple little rhyme that tells about your desire in it.
It doesn't even have to rhyme. This is all about will power, the power of positive thinking,
and creative visualization. If you can do these things then you will send those vibrations out
into the universe and eventually they will materialize.

Celebrating the New Moon

The following rite is one which welcomes the moon back at the beginning of her cycle. If you're raising children in a Pagan or Wiccan tradition, this can be a lot of fun. It's also a simple ritual that can be performed by a solitary practitioner.

Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varied

Here's How:

  1. First, if your tradition requires you to cast a circle, do so at this time. If you don't normally cast a circle, take the time to ritually purify the area by smudging or asperging. This will establish the space as sacred.

Perform this ceremony outside if at all possible -- it's the best way to get a good look at the sliver of new moon. You'll need a moon candle, wrapped in a black cloth, to place on your altar. This is traditionally a white unscented pillar-style candle. You'll also need a hand-held mirror. Tie some silver and white ribbons on it if you wish. Finally, have a small bowl of Blessing Oil handy.

  2. Hold this ceremony at sunset if you can. Turn to the west, and watch as the sun goes down (without looking directly at it). Once the sun has dropped below the horizon, you'll be able to see where the new moon is rising. If the sun sets before you began, you'll need to look a bit higher in the sky, but you should still be able to find it as long as the night is a clear one.

If you're doing this rite with children, have them each try to be the first one to spot the new moon.
  3.  Once you see the moon in the sky, unwrap the candle. Hold it up high and say:

Crystal Healing Spell

Crystal Healing Spell

For a dose of healing, take a clear quartz crystal and wash it under running water to rid it of any accrued negativity. Place the crystal in sunlight for one whole Sunday to charge it with energy. Hold it against your forehead, and visualize its healing powers acting on auntie's rheumatism, or mother's backache, or your friend's migraines. Keep in mind that the crystal may only be used for one purpose at a time. When you have the purpose fixed firmly in your mind, project it into the crystal. You may then either give the crystal to the person concerned or place it on your altar. The crystal will continue to work for its programmed purpose until you wash and reprogram it.

Salt Lamp

Salt Lamp (small)

Colored with natural minerals, such as iron, these lamps are wonderful examples of the natural wonders that can be found within the earth. Each lamp is created with a large piece of Himalayan rock salt that has had its core hollowed out, and has been fastened to a sturdy wooden base. This allows for the small light that comes with it to be placed within the piece of rock salt, creating a warm, pink glow that is great for creating a soothing atmosphere in whatever room it is placed. Further, as these lamps heat up it is believed that they create healing negative ions, which are believed to help balance your electromagnetic field, purify the air, and generally help create a sense of serenity.

Each lamp stands approximately 6 1/2" high and 4" in diameter, though the exact sizes will vary, as the salt is left in its raw form and is a natural product of the earth. Each also comes with a light bulb and cord that can be plugged into any standard U.S. socket. 5.2 lbs
